o 110
o 100
o 120
o 130
Question 2: Sci / Tech : Math Quiz: Exponents (Specific Math Topics)
What is the equivalent of x to the negative two-thirds power?
o Not possible
o x squared divided by 3
o 2 divided by the cube root of x
o 1 divided by the cube root of x squared
Question 3: Sci / Tech : What's the Math-ter? (Mixed Math)
If GEOMETRY means 'earth measurement', what does TRIGONOMETRY mean?
o Three Measurements
o Triangle Measurement
o Angle Measurement
o Earth Triangle Measurement
Question 4: Sci / Tech : Basic Symbolic Logic (Specific Math Topics)
This tool is where logicians do much of their work. It is designed to summarize truth values using rows and columns.
o truth table
o truth diagram
o reality table
o correctness gauge
Question 5: Sci / Tech : Million Dollar Math (Mixed Math)
Whether certain 'Hard' problems can be solved in polynomial order time is referred to as ...?
o P vs. NP
o Riemann Hypothesis
o Hodge Conjecture
o Poincaire Hypothesis
Question 6: Sci / Tech : Which Way Is Up (Measurements, Time and Distance)
If I am looking at the sunrise, I am looking in what direction?
o East
o North
o West
o South
Question 7: Sci / Tech : Metric and Imperial Measurements (Measurements, Time and Distance)
If I am 5 foot 9 inches tall, how tall am I in cm?
o 200
o 100
o 175
o 150
Question 8: Sci / Tech : Basic Geometry Formulas (Geometry)
What is the area of a rectangle?
o L x W
o 1/2 L x W
o 2L X W
o L X 2W
Question 9: Sci / Tech : The Mathematics of FunTrivia-Like Games (Statistics and Probability)
The game has no penalty for guessing on a multiple choice item. "Penalty for guessing?" you say. "How would that work?"
o Every 16th (4 x 4) multiple choice answer would automatically be scored as wrong.
o Every wrong answer would result in a fraction off your score.
o A "no answer" would get you a fraction of a point, while a correct answer would score zero.
o You would first be asked to eliminate two choices and then choose your answer from the remaining two.
Question 10: Sci / Tech : Eras and Periods (Measurements, Time and Distance)
Lastly, what period are we living in?
o Ordovician
o Tertiary
o Quaternary
o Cretaceous

The Answers
1. If a?b means a(a+b) and a#b means b(a-b), find 5?(8#3).
You correctly answered 100.
3(8-3) is 15, and then 5(5+15) equals 100. (report correction)
2. What is the equivalent of x to the negative two-thirds power?
You correctly answered 1 divided by the cube root of x squared.
Since x to the two-thirds power is the cube root of x squared, to find x to the negative two-thirds power, divide 1 by x to the two-thirds power. (report correction)
3. If GEOMETRY means 'earth measurement', what does TRIGONOMETRY mean?
The correct answer was Triangle Measurement.
Trigon is another term for triangle. (report correction)
4. This tool is where logicians do much of their work. It is designed to summarize truth values using rows and columns.
You correctly answered truth table.
Truth tables grids of T's (for true) and F's (for false). They don't look very impressive, but they can be tricky to work with. (report correction)
5. Whether certain 'Hard' problems can be solved in polynomial order time is referred to as ...?
You correctly answered P vs. NP.
The problems in question are referred to as NP complete. Strangely enough, the question as to whether or not certain minesweeper configurations are possible fits in this category. (report correction)
6. If I am looking at the sunrise, I am looking in what direction?
You correctly answered East. (report correction)
7. If I am 5 foot 9 inches tall, how tall am I in cm?
You correctly answered 175.
5'9' = 69 inches, then simply multiply by 2.5 to get 175. (report correction)
8. What is the area of a rectangle?
You correctly answered L x W. (report correction)
9. The game has no penalty for guessing on a multiple choice item. "Penalty for guessing?" you say. "How would that work?"
You correctly answered Every wrong answer would result in a fraction off your score..
A guessing penalty is a feature of many standardized exams including the US Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT). It is designed to keep the test taker from benefiting from random guessing. (report correction)
10. Lastly, what period are we living in?
You correctly answered Quaternary. (report correction)
Questions correct: 9 / 10
You took 250 seconds to complete this quiz.
Total score: 650 |
