Note also, a 3-frame gif image is displayed until the user opens the actual video. Apart from looking good, this means that the instance of the flash-player isn't loaded until the video is played.. On pages with LOTS of videos posted, this makes a big difference, as otherwise, even if the video hasn't been started, each video causes an instance of flash-player to start, which uses loads of memory and slows things down.
Similarly, when the video is stopped, the flash-player instance is unloaded and replaced again by the gif image.
I've also added an option in the profile menu that allows you to set the type of "preview" image that is shown. (on a youtube video, click the 'options' link down the bottom left)
This is mainly for those eeejits still using DACS, as the preview image tends to be around 240K, whilst the single-frame image is about 30K
If you're really fascist, you can set the image to none - in which case you'll get the generic 'click to open' message.
In addition, when posting a youtube video, you can now change the default image type by adding the keywords 'single' or 'none' after the youtube ID. However, this only works when you use the 'media' format for posting videos, such as:

[media=jCnAjel02lM]my title[/media]
[media]jCnAjel02lM single[/media]
[media=jCnAjel02lM single]my title[/media]
[media]jCnAjel02lM none[/media]
[media=jCnAjel02lM none]my title[/media]
Also, just pasting a youtube URL directly will cause it to automatically be converted into the above format, such as:

[media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mTvrWnEWK8&related=1[/media]
[media=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6mTvrWnEWK8&related=1]Look at this[/media]

Finally, simply pasting a URL of the above format will work, as it will be converted automatically.

Edit: ok, so it does find the video id from a full URL - there's my next idea gone! |
